494 Railway Staff Honoured

Patna: Altogether 494 officials and employees of the five divisions of East Central Railway (ECR) were awarded for their outstanding services at its 61st Railway Week function organized here on Monday. They included 64 group D employees, 275 from group C and 45 officials.

Speaking on the occasion, ECR GM A K Mittal lauded the role of railway officials and employees for their contribution in the progress of ECR since its inception in 2002. "It's the hard work that made possible for the ECR to earn Rs13,738 crore in 2015-2016 fiscal. It is a record for the zone," Mittal said, adding that the ECR has already joined the club of Rs10,000 crore earning zones of Indian Railways.

According to Mittal, the ECR made a record earning in the passenger segment while it loaded about 114.93 million tonne freight during 2015-2016 fiscal. "Railways has improved the punctuality of mail and express trains this year. It has built foot overbridges at different stations to further improve passenger amenities in the zone," he said.
 Mittal said railways introduced a few superfast trains in the zone and made Pataliputra Junction functional. It also dedicated two mega rail bridges and extended the run of a few passenger trains to cater to the passengers' needs, he said.

Later, the GM handed over shields, awards and certificates to the officials and employees for their outstanding works. While Danapur division received the best energy shield, it shared the award with Dhanbad for bridge maintenance. The punctuality shield was bagged by Samastipur division while Dhanbad was declared the best in freight loading category. Danapur division bagged the shields in family welfare, environmental and Rajbhasa categories while Dhanbad won the accounts efficiency award.

Earlier, Mittal and ECR women welfare organization president Manu Mittal inaugurated the function by lighting a traditional lamp. Many senior ECR officials, including AGM T P Singh, railway employees and railway union representatives, were present on the occasion.
