The Western Railway (WR) suspended a deputy station superintendent for allegedly replacing currency notes of Rs 50, Rs 100 and other smaller denominations worth Rs 1,65,000 – kept for official use – with demonetised notes.

Railway officials alleged the deputy station superintendent at Grant Road station exchanged the cash kept at the booking office on Tuesday night immediately after the Centre’s announcement on the demonetisation. “This was caught by the chief station supervisor on Wednesday morning,” said a senior WR official
